You’re hearing about it everywhere—Twitter. If you’re still not quite sure what it is or
why you should use it, here’s our simplified guide to the newest social networking
phenomenon.
Twitter is a website you can visit and sign up for, where you can easily communicate
quick messages to your friends. The messages are all VERY short (1-2 sentences)
and typically serve to keep your friends (or “followers” as they are referred to on
twitter) up-to-date with your daily activities.
Some people follow only friends and family (including us—SETXAPA), while other
people choose to also “follow” icons such as their favorite NASCAR driver or movie-
star. You can pick as many “friends” as you want to follow, and people can choose
to follow you too.
Let us give you an example. Let’s say you sign up on twitter tomorrow. Trust us, the
sign up part is super easy… just go to twitter.com and follow the instructions. On the
first day, you decide to “follow” Oprah, your favorite NBA player, SETXAPA, and
your best friend John Doe.
(By the way, it’s easy to find people to follow. You simply type in their names or e-
mail addresses. You’ll be shocked at all the people out there who use twitter!)
Anyway—back to our example—everyday as you log onto twitter (just like you
normally check your e-mail daily), you’ll see new messages from your friends. Oprah
might have sent her followers, including you, a message (referred to as a “tweet”)
telling you about her feelings about the show she just aired yesterday. Your favorite
NBA player might have sent a tweet about why he did not play his best game last
night. SETXAPA sent you a tweet, reminding you about the cool tournament this
weekend, and your friend John sent you a tweet telling you about a great sale he
just found at your favorite sporting goods store.
It’s simply a fun way to stay connected. Best of all, you can forward your tweets to
your cell phone, so you get your tweets via text messages without having to log on
to your computer.
